Services: Ozone Therapy

What is Ozone?

The air we breathe contains the normal oxygen molecule, which is composed of two joined oxygen atoms. Ozone is composed of three joined oxygen atoms. Think of ozone as super-charged oxygen.
Ozone, cytokines and the immune system.

Ozone acts on the membranes of our white blood cells. This interaction prompts these cells to produce chemical messenger molecules called cytokines.

Cytokines tell your immune cells to fight invading pathogens that cause illness and disease.  However, overproduction of cytokines reverses this good effect, and can lead to excess inflammation and auto-immune diseases.

Ozone and Blood Flow

Ozone in the bloodstream improves blood flow. The science reveals that when ozone is present, more of the oxygen-carrying hemoglobin molecules reach our capillaries. These delicate, tiny blood vessels deliver blood,
nutrients and oxygen to cells throughout the body. As ozone improves circulation, our cells receive more of
the oxygen they need to function well.

Mitochondria and Cellular Health

Mitochondria are a part of each cell in our bodies. These act as little powerhouses, breaking
down nutrients and generating energy-rich molecules for our cells. Ozone is a powerful mitochondrial stimulant. Many degenerative diseases take hold when mitochondrial energy production is low.

How important is healthy mitochondria? Here’s a high-level list of mitochondrial functions:

  • Modulate calcium uptake to stay within healthy limits.
  • Regulate the enzymes that produce cellular energy. When cells need more energy, mitochondria meet the demand with calcium ions.
  • Sensors for cell health, mitochondria phase out cells when calcium levels become toxic.
  • Regulate the immune system to protect the body from pathogens and foreign substances.

Medicine to Therapy

Infusion—a process which feels about like giving a blood donation—is the most common way to administer ozone. The infusion takes about one hour and, for most people, is the most effective ozone therapy.

Your practitioner will:

  1. Remove six to 12 ounces of blood into an IV bag. (The same process as donating
    blood.)
  2. Inject ozone into the bag with a syringe and shake the bag gently. This makes it possible for your red and white cells to take up the ozone.
  3. Reverse the infusion and the ozonated blood returns to your body.

Is Ozone Therapy for Me?

Ozone is not a panacea. And many physical problems will clear up without ozone. However, there are many conditions that will not improve unless ozone therapy takes place. Rarely effective on its own, integrative medicine combines ozone therapy with an individualized program of other therapies, such as nutrition and detoxification.

These multiple therapeutic properties make ozone therapy an important element in the treatment plan for many diseases. Talk with Dr. Seth Lambert, DO to see if this treatment is for you!
