Services: INtra-Nutritional Therapy

IV room at CultivateIntravenous (IV) Infusions

Intravenous vitamin and mineral and Peptide infusions can be very helpful as chronically ill patients often are depleted in magnesium, B-vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients. As these nutrients become depleted, the enzymes that they form also become depleted. This leads to a complex situation in which the enzymes needed to absorb vitamins and minerals are deficient, which leads to even more nutrient deficiencies. And the problem here is that, because of decreased absorption, simply giving the patient vitamins and minerals orally often cannot correct the problem.

Intravenous infusions provide a safe way to replenish depleted vitamins and minerals even when a patient's absorption is impaired.

High Dose Vitamin C (Sodium Ascorbate)

Why Vitamin C is Essential

High-dose sodium ascorbate Vitamin C was first introduced into widespread use in the 1940s by Dr. Fred Klenner MD, and later continued by Dr. Robert Cathcart, and Linus Pauling, PhD. Over the years various studies have demonstrated its value in addressing a broad spectrum of chronic conditions for its anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and anti-cancer properties. In addition, it has been successfully used to treat many infectious conditions such as sepsis, Mumps and Lyme. Furthermore, it’s been shown that Vitamin C is essential for peak functioning of the immune system and has been found to stabilize the normal state of cells by reducing virus production and promoting synthesis of various proteins.

Amongst its many benefits, Vitamin C reduces the impact of stress on the immune system, improves hemoglobin status which in turn improves the oxygen supply to tissue, and has been proven to be an important component in building new collagen tissue, a strong factor in healing trauma and rebuilding ligaments, tendons and cartilage.

Vitamin C is one of the most powerful antioxidants, as it defends the cells against high levels of harmful free radicals produced by our modern age environmental pollutants, radiation, tobacco, metabolic stress, and can help the body achieve an optimal level of performance and efficiency.

Vitamin C plays a functional role in the body as a cofactor in multiple reactions:

FunctionRole of Vitamin C
Collagen synthesisConnective tissue stabilization
Carnitine synthesisMitochondrial fat transport; essential for Energy (ATP) production
Neurotransmitter production Synthesis pathways in brain and adrenals
Antioxidant defenseReactive Oxygen Species (ROS) neutralization
DetoxificationSupports liver metabolism and detoxification
Immune functionLeukocyte support
Iron absorptionEnhances non-heme iron uptake
Adrenal supportStress hormone physiology

"What about the risk of kidney stones?  My doctors told me not to take Vitamin C..."

  • Vitamin C has no known toxic dosage in patients without preexisting renal conditions.
  • A large study, "The Harvard Prospective Health Professional Follow-Up Study," found that "the intake of high doses of Vitamin C does not increase the risk of calcium oxalate kidney stones…." They also found that members of the group with the highest Vitamin C intake "had a lower risk of kidney stones than those with the lowest intake."
  • Serum Vitamin C levels were examined in relation to the history of kidney stones in over 10,000 subjects, and no evidence was found to indicate that high Vitamin C levels increased the prevalence of kidney stones. Conversely, the higher the Vitamin C levels in the blood, the lower the incidence of kidney stones. [Simon (1999), 10090119]
  • In a Harvard study on 85,557 women with no history of kidney stones, Vitamin C intake was not associated with risk of developing kidney stones. The Harvard researchers advised that "routine restriction of Vitamin C to prevent stone formation appears unwarranted." [Curhan (1999), 10203369]
  • Continuous Vitamin C infusions of 50 grams daily were given over an eight-week period in terminal cancer patients with no definable negative side effects. [Casciari (2001), 11384106]
  • "… 194,054 g, or 427 lbs of IV vitamin C administered to 275 patients with no sign of serious kidney disease, or any other significant side effects over a 16-year period" (2002) [Jackson et al (2002), https://riordanclinic.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/89023765_jom.pdf]
